Access statement - The Thatched House, Amberley

Introduction

We aim to cater for all the needs of all visitors based on one bedroom with private bathroom for bed and breakfast - there is an additional bedroom for family and friends. We should mention that The Thatched House is not ideally suited to physically impaired guests as the bedrooms are on the first floor and access is by staircase.

Pre-arrival

There is an infrequent bus service to Amberley but a regular train service from Victoria/Gatwick to Amberley station which lies approximately one mile outside the village - collection from station can be arranged. It is ideal for walkers and cyclists as there is easy access to The South Downs Way.
Taxis are available upon request.

Arrival & Parking facilities

We have a garage available for guests by arrangement and there is ample additional street parking immediately adjacent to the property. There are lockable facilities available for bicycles and motor cycles with adjacent tap for washing bikes etc if muddy.
Access to the house is via the front door.

Main Entrance and Reception

There are five shallow steps up to the front door.
There is an electric door bell and a door bell pull.
The front entrance is 75cms wide.
From the hall there are two small flights of stairs, totalling fifteen in all to the landing & bedrooms - the width of the staircase is 85cms.
There is a strong oak hand rail.

Guy / Mary will assist guests with luggage to their bedrooms.

Public areas

There are two bedrooms on the first floor, one double & one twin - the bathroom is between the two and there is a separate W.C.,this is for exclusive use of the guests.
Cloakroom with hand basin downstairs - off hallway.
Lounge & Dining room - ground floor.

The house has fitted carpets throughout including the staircase except for the kitchen and bathroom which are tiled. The dining room has a wooden floor and has a central large rug. The lounge has high and low seating with upright chairs and a sofa - it is available to guests.

Laundry

Mary can provide a limited clothes washing facility in emergencies.
Iron & board are available on request.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served on a large oval table (seats 6 )
There is a choice of main breakfast dishes and special diets can be catered for by prior request.
We do not have background music.
No smoking house- fire alarms fitted

Village facilities

Shop -There is a good village shop selling locally sourced produce - open seven days a week
Sandwiches can be purchased from the shop.
Limited Post Office facilities.

Tea Rooms - open variable times

Bedrooms

Twin bedded room - views to the Wildbrooks
Double bedroom - standard double bed.
Both bedrooms have tea/coffee making facilities.

Bathroom

The bathroom is off the same landing as the bedroom ( exclusive use for guests ).
There is a bath with overhead shower. It is well lit.
There is an anti-slip mat for bath and there is a handrail.

Garden

The garden is available for the use of guests upon request. It is on several levels and can be accessed by part gravel paths and steps.There are wonderful views from elevated positions over the adjoining wildbrooks.
There is seating at various points.
Access from garden to Wey & Arun pathway.

Additional Information

We regret we cannot accept dogs in the house as we have one of our own.
Mobile phone reception can be erratic.
We are a NO SMOKING house but smoking is permitted in the garden.
